Anthropic and Samsung in early talks on a custom AI chip

For Anthropic specifically, the appeal is leverage as much as raw cost. Adding a fourth chip supplier weakens any single vendor's pricing power, and designing to a neutral foundry like Samsung keeps its compute supply from becoming a pressure point that its cloud-provider investors — Amazon and Google, both rivals as well as backers — could one day lean on.
