DeepSeek opens Search and Fetch APIs to all agent developers
The two web tools cost RMB 5 per 1,000 successful requests, with failed calls, empty results and timeouts free.
The answer
DeepSeek opened Search and Fetch APIs to all developers building AI agents, at RMB 5 per 1,000 requests.
What happened: DeepSeek has opened its in-house Search and Fetch APIs to all developers building AI agents, according to TechNode. The tools expose DeepSeek's proprietary search engine.
The details: Search returns structured web results. Fetch extracts a webpage's title and content as Markdown. Developers use their existing DeepSeek API credentials.
The numbers: Each service costs RMB 5 per 1,000 successful requests. Failed requests, empty search results and timeouts are not charged.
Why it matters: Agent builders get web search and page extraction from the same provider and the same credentials as their model calls. No separate account is needed.
The context: The launch follows the V4.1-Flash-1017 model update, published on 17 October.
Who's affected: Server-side calls made through DeepSeek Harness, Claude Code and Codex are currently unbilled. Developers using those routes pay nothing for now.
In their words: TechNode reports the end of that free period: "Charging for those calls will begin at midnight Beijing time on November 1."
The catch: The details come from DeepSeek's API documentation, which is in Chinese.
What's next: Billing for server-side calls through DeepSeek Harness, Claude Code and Codex starts at midnight Beijing time on 1 November.
