**What happened:** DeepSeek has opened its in-house Search and Fetch APIs to all developers building AI agents, according to [TechNode](https://technode.com/2026/10/19/deepseek-launches-web-search-and-page-fetching-apis-for-ai-agents/). The tools expose DeepSeek's proprietary search engine.

**The details:** Search returns structured web results. Fetch extracts a webpage's title and content as Markdown. Developers use their existing DeepSeek API credentials.

**The numbers:** Each service costs RMB 5 per 1,000 successful requests. Failed requests, empty search results and timeouts are not charged.

**Why it matters:** Agent builders get web search and page extraction from the same provider and the same credentials as their model calls. No separate account is needed.

**The context:** The launch follows the V4.1-Flash-1017 model update, published on 17 October.

**Who's affected:** Server-side calls made through DeepSeek Harness, Claude Code and Codex are currently unbilled. Developers using those routes pay nothing for now.

**In their words:** TechNode reports the end of that free period: "Charging for those calls will begin at midnight Beijing time on November 1."

**The catch:** The details come from DeepSeek's API documentation, which is in Chinese.

**What's next:** Billing for server-side calls through DeepSeek Harness, Claude Code and Codex starts at midnight Beijing time on 1 November.

## Key takeaways

- Search and Fetch APIs now open to all developers
- RMB 5 per 1,000 successful requests, each service
- Harness, Claude Code and Codex calls unbilled until 1 November
