Google Cloud revenue jumps 82% as Gemini hits 950m users

What happened: Alphabet reported second-quarter 2026 results on 22 July, showing broad growth across search, YouTube and cloud, all lifted by AI products.

The numbers: Total revenue rose 24% year on year. Search and other grew 17%, YouTube ads 13%, and Google Cloud surged 82%, with its backlog reaching $514 billion.

The details: Capital expenditure hit $44.9 billion for the quarter. Bloomberg reported Alphabet's future spending commitments have climbed to $811 billion.

Who's affected: The Gemini app now has 950 million monthly active users, while Search AI Mode has passed 1 billion. Google's model APIs process about 22 billion tokens per minute, up from 16 billion, and more than 9 million developers build with its models monthly. Nearly 90% of the Fortune 100 use Gemini Enterprise, and almost 500 cloud customers process over 1 trillion tokens a year.

The context: Gemma models have been downloaded more than 900 million times, with Gemma 4 alone passing 300 million since April. Antigravity has 2.4 million weekly active users, and the Agent Development Kit has near 70 million downloads.

The rivals: YouTube drew 140 million users to Ask YouTube in June and more than 1.7 billion unique viewers for World Cup content. Waymo has completed over 1 million home deliveries.
